PURIFICATION OF THE HEART

In The Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

All praises to Allah for letting us live for one more day to be grateful to Him. If He gives or takes back anything to or from us, we are still being thankful to Him, InsyaAllah because Allah knows what the best is and what is not.

I remember Arabic's saying that says 'heart won't be named heart if it doesn't fluctuate'. So, heart is always upside down, need to be comforted, but how? What is its secret? Answer:

"Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah. for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction." (ar-Ra'd: 28)

Whatever alternative besides this, it might be efficient to find satisfaction for our heart but only temporary. I think everyone is well known about our own condition, no need to intricate more. However, there are many ways in the remembrance of Allah, not only saying zikr by mouth.

Sometimes, we try to avoid facing problem once we have engaged into it. We tend to run away from the environment and people around. I would like to share a hadith that we always hear in lectures.

Firstly, to get us out of the group or congregation or jamaah, satan will sow kinds of feelings in our hearts. We might feel like having conflicts with others, then to avoid confrontation or maybe bored of listening to tazkirah. Then, we feel like we do not belong to the group. Step by step, we withdraw ourselves from the large group. Less frequent meeting people and going to the masjid. Loss interest to listen to tazkirah. So on and so forth.

If we remember, one of the Prophet's companions, Mu'adz bin Jabal said: "believers should feel obliged to gather for ijlis bina nu'min sa'ah (let's sit and refresh our faith) to reflect each heart. This is important to make sure we are in the right path and to increase our faith.

I'm just conveying a bit of many things. Rasulullah SAW said: "convey my message even one sentence. Because the one who listen to you might understand what I said better than you who sit in front of me"

We hope to keep steadfast in this deen and struggle for the sake of Allah.

"Our Lord!" (they say), "Let not our hearts deviate now after Thou hast guided us, but grant us mercy from Thine own Presence; for Thou art the Grantor of bounties without measure" (Ali 'Imran: 8)

Wallahu a'lam

Proud to be Muslim?

In The Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

Don't spoil the precious that Allah has given to us.

"Thus, have We made of you an ummah justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations, and the Messenger a witness over yourselves; and We appointed the Qibla to which thou was used, only to test those who followed the Messenger from those who would turn on their heels (From the Faith). Indeed it was (A change) momentous, except to those guided by Allah. And never would Allah Make your faith of no effect. For Allah is to all people Most surely full of kindness, Most Merciful." (al-Baqarah: 143)

In this verse, Allah upholds the degree of ummah of Prophet Muhammad SAW to the highest level. Comparing against more than a billion of other people, we have been chosen by Allah to pilot them as the chosen ummah. We should feel fortunate to be the ummah of Prophet Muhammad SAW because The One who appointed us not a human being, even not a leader of a country but all the powers are in His hands and to Him we all seek refuge. Alhamdulillah, this is of course the utmost recognition that we should be proud of.

However, looking at the situation of the Muslims' community, sometimes it triggers 'Are not they proud being a Muslim? Are not they proud to have a high status beside Allah SWT?'

We try so hard to leave Islamic tradition as we perceived them as conservative, not cool, lack of interest and difficult!! But, we praise western culture to be so-called modern nation; we proudly practice it, constantly in our daily life. Rock music are more tasteful that the melody Quranic recitation. We like to read Harry Potter or Lord of The Ring more than we are supposed to love to read al-Quran, scandals of artists seem to be more fascinating than the sirah of Prophet SAW and his companions. Is it this what we called 'The Chosen Ummah'? Dare we toss this religion just to get the worldly happiness? Astaghfirullah…we pray so that we are among those under His mercy.

Living in a foreign country is likened a salesman. We are selling the product of Islam to the non-Muslim to buy. If we have enough knowledge and portray the beauty of 'the product', our 'customer' might be attracted and 'buy' it. On the other hand, if we leave 'the product' and doing nothing with it, some other day, we might forget about what we are selling. The market is so big and because it is so big, there will always be challenges. Find our way according to the sunnah of Prophet SAW, put effort on it and at the end of the day, let Allah decide whether our customer will buy it or not.

Nonetheless, even our fellow Muslim also might be deviated from the true path of Islam. In order to suit themselves to the new environment, they started unveiling their aurat, going to pubs and get drunk. Some of them might commit adultery. Be careful and always be careful.

It is a rule that when we are given something big as if The Chosen Ummah, we are burdened with big responsibility. The message of Islam is accounted on us to convey to those who are misguided. We pray that we are among those who are grateful.

Verily, proud being Muslim will save our faith.

"Who is better in speech than one who calls (men) to Allah, works righteousness, and says, "I am of those who bow in Islam"? (Fussilat:33)

Wallahu a'lam

Let's Help Our Ummah

Palestinian Aid Muslim Duty: Scholars

Scholars also urged Muslim peoples to stage rallies and strikes to pressure their governments to support the Palestinians.

By Farahat Al Abbar, IOL Correspondent

DOHA, May 12, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) – Muslim scholars wrapped up a two-day conference in Doha on Thursday, May 11, saying it is a duty on all Muslims to help the Palestinians, hard hit by aid freeze by the West since the Hamas-led government came to power.

"Muslim peoples everywhere must help the Palestinians by all means," according to the final communiqué of the Doha conference held in support of the Palestinian people.

"Muslims must offer all means of financial assistance to their fellow ones in Palestine to help them overcome their financial crunch and render plans to mitigate their sufferings a success."

The Palestinians have been facing serious shortages of food and medicine since the US and the EU suspended direct aid to the Hamas-led government.

Israel has further stopped transferring customs duties worth around $50 million a month and previously collected for the Palestinian Authority.

The two-day conference opened in the Qatari capital Doha on Wednesday, May 10, at an initiative from prominent Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS).

It was attended by a cohort of Muslim scholars including renowned Saudi scholar Sheikh Salman Al-Odah and Harith al-Dari, chairman of Iraq's Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS).

A number of Palestinian leaders also attended including Hamas's Khaled Meshaal.

Banks Role

Qaradawi said it was permissible for Muslims to pay the Zakah money to the Palestinians to help them in their current crisis.

The communiqué urged the Arab banks to help transfer funds and donations to the Palestinians.

"Banks must stand up to their duties and avoid being used by the enemies and fail the Palestinian people," it said.

During their opening session, Muslim scholars threatened to rally world Muslims to boycott countries and banks blocking aid to the starving Palestinian people.

Several banks have refused to transfer millions of dollars donated by Arabs and Muslims or some governments to the Palestinian Authority fearing American sanctions.

The Arab Bank, which holds some 30,000 accounts of PA workers, refrained from accepting such transfer after the US threatened to deem this as assistance to Hamas.

Strikes

The statement further urged Muslim peoples to stage rallies and strikes to pressure their governments to support the Palestinians.

"These rallies will be used to pressure governments falling short of supporting the Palestinians to live up to their responsibilities and stop all attempts to normalize with the Zionist entity."

It also warned that failure of the "reform process in Palestine would push the Muslim peoples to resort to violence to introduce reforms".

The statement also called on the Palestinian presidency to cooperate with the Hamas-led government as it was freely elected by the Palestinian people.

Qatari Campaign

Sheikh Qaradawi unveiled during the closing session a grassroots aid campaign that will be launched in Qatar within days.

The prominent scholar also said that it was permissible for Muslims to pay the Zakah money to the Palestinians to help them in their current crisis.

Zakah is obligatory amounts of money that rich Muslims pay to the poor

Many donation campaigns have been organized in many Arab and Muslim countries to help the Palestinians in their current distress.

The Arab Doctors Union launched on May 5 in Cairo an ambitious campaign throughout the Arab world to raise one billion euros for the Palestinians.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees warned on Friday, May 5, that a humanitarian crisis was now "on our doorstep" in the Gaza Strip due to the aid freeze.

Show No Compromise

Muslim Scholars Threaten Boycott Over Palestinian Aid

"Scholars will ask Muslims to withdraw their money from these banks if they continue to block aid transfer," Qaradawi threatened.

By Farahat Al Abbar, IOL Correspondent

DOHA, May 11, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) – Prominent scholars are threatening to rally world Muslims to boycott countries and banks blocking aid to the starving Palestinian people.

"We will call for a boycott of banks that refuse to transfer donated funds to the Palestinian people," leading scholar Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi told the opening session of a conference for the support of Palestinian people on Wednesday, May 10.

"Scholars will ask Muslims to withdraw their money from these banks if they continue to block aid transfer and be part of the scheme to starve the Palestinians," he threatened.

The two-day Doha conference is attended by a galaxy of Muslim scholars including renowned Saudi scholar Sheikh Salman Al-Odah and Harith al-Dari, chairman of Iraq's Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS).

A number of Palestinian leaders are also attending including Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal.

Boycott

Sheikh Qaradawi, president of the International Union of Muslims Scholars (IUMS), said millions of dollars have been raised for the Palestinians.

"But these funds were not transferred to the Palestinians because banks are refusing to cooperate fearing US sanctions," he said.

"If this continues, we will urge Muslims to withdraw their money from these banks."

Egyptians have raced to donate for the Palestinians, raising LE7 million ($1.2 million) in just a couple of hours at the beginning of an ambitious campaign launched by the Arab Doctors Union in Cairo on Friday, May 5, to raise one billion euros for the Palestinians.

Qaradawi also called for pressuring Arab governments to allow the transfer of funds to the Palestinians.

The Palestinian government needs $170 million a month, out of which $115 million goes to 165,000 civil servants.

Danish Example

Odah urged Muslim businessmen to funnel investments into the Palestinian territories.

The leading Muslim scholar threatened to rally Muslims to boycott countries that refuse to deal with the Hamas-led government.

"We will boycott any country that severs ties with the Palestinian government as we did with Denmark following the Prophet cartoons," he said.

Prominent Muslim scholars, led by Qaradawi, have championing an international boycott of Danish products following the publication of twelve drawings lampooning Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) by a Danish daily.

The boycott has inflicted huge losses on a number of Danish companies doing business in Arab and Muslim countries.

"Boycott is a powerful weapons and we will use," said Qaradawi.

The Palestinians have been facing serious shortages of food and medicine since the US and the EU suspended direct aid to the Hamas-led government.

Israel has further stopped transferring customs duties worth around $50 million a month and previously collected for the Palestinian Authority.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees warned on Friday, May 5, that a humanitarian crisis was now "on our doorstep" in the Gaza Strip due to the aid freeze.

Practical Steps

Sheikh Salman Al-Odah urged Muslim businessmen to funnel investments into the Palestinian territories.

He called for encouraging Muslims to help the Palestinians and urged the Palestinians to close ranks and avoid in-fighting.

The Saudi scholar also urged the media to highlight developments in the occupied territories.

The Hamas leader on his part, exhorted Muslims to stand by the Palestinians in their struggle against the Israeli occupation.

He asserted that the international campaign to starve the Palestinians would not discourage them from struggling to regain their inalienable rights.

Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniya said the West's blockade only meant to push the Palestinians to make concessions.

NO COMPROMISE!!!

When it comes to dignity, Muslims' dignity, the highness of Islam, then there are no compromise.

BEHOLD...

and

REMEMBER...

that there's no international terrorism,

no outside influence.

It's all an invention made by the kuffar.

It's a lie and a deception.

This nation of Islam is being destroyed...

A nation with a unique way of life...

...which could offer something to the world.

The kuffars just don't care as they think they are doing good.

Indeed, they are misguided and wrongdo-er.

Mother

MOTHER

by Sami Yusuf

Blessed is your face
Blessed is your name
My beloved
Blessed is your smile
Which makes my soul want to fly
My beloved
All the nights
And all the times
That you cared for me
But I never realised it
And now it's too late
Forgive me

Now I'm alone filled with so much shame
For all the years I caused you pain
If only I could sleep in your arms again
Mother I'm lost without you

You were the sun that brightened my day
Now who's going to wipe my tears away
If only I knew what I know today
Mother I'm lost without you

Ummahu, ummahu, ya ummi
wa shawqahu ila luqyaki ya ummi
Ummuka, ummuka, ummuka ummuka
Qawlu rasulika
Fi qalbi, fi hulumi
Anti ma'i ya ummi
Mother... Mother... O my mother
How I long to see O mother
"Your mother, Your mother, Your mother"
Is the saying of your Prophet
In my heart, in my dreams
You are always with me mother

Ruhti wa taraktini
Ya nura 'aynayya
Ya unsa layli
Ruhti wa taraktini
Man siwaki yahdhununi
Man siwaki yasturuni
Man siwaki yahrusuni
'Afwaki ummi
Samihini...
You went and left me
O light of my eyes
O comfort of my nights
You went and left me
Who, other than you, will embrace me?
Who, other than you, will cover me?
Who, other than you, will guard over me?
Your pardon mother, forgive me

Miss you mom!

p/s I am in an exam mode. No mood to write an article although I got two articles in progress. I'm going to finish them between after exam and before I fly back to Msia. So, after this you will find a lot more 'copy n paste' job....hehehe. Pray for my success guys.

Islam haram tahan tanpa bicara

Apa tidaknya, saya ditahan tanpa bicara.

Islam mengharamkan penahanan tanpa bicara

Akhirnya kerajaan pasti menang.

Tapi tunggu dulu! Kalau hadapkan ke mahkamah tahanan boleh bersuara. Boleh guna peguam-peguam yang top.

No..No..No..

Paksa tutup mulut. Sumbat ke Kem Kamunting! Ulamak Umno pula berkokok kata ya, ISA menepati kehendak syarak!

Tahan tanpa bicara bertentangan prinsip Rasullullah

Al-Mawdudi berhujjah dengan peristiwa Hatib bin Abi Balta'a.

Rasulullah s.a.w sedang membuat persediaan untuk menyerang Makkah apabila salah seorang sahabahnya yang bernama Hatib bin Abi Balta'a mengirim surat melalui seorang wanita memberitahu pemimpin-pemimpin Quraisy tentang rancangan Rasulullah s.a.w tersebut.

Tiada siapa yang mempertikai keadilan Rasulullah s.a.w.

Tanpa pengadilan tiada keadilan!

169. Think not of those who are slain in Allah.s way as dead. Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord;

Cost of Living in Malaysia....Extremely High?

By Dr Zain Azrai, London

The argument in this thread from day one is the cost of living in each country (especially UK and Europe based on what you earn in the respective country and whether the standards are higher than in Malaysia.

I tried to point out that many Malaysians always convert and that is why they say the UK is expensive. In fact, the cost of living is much cheaper than in Malaysia.

In actual fact, Malaysians are being conned because for such a rich and resource rich country, the pay in Malaysia is way too low compared to the cost of living and inflation.

One good example is Singapore.

Singaporeans (average) earns around S$3000 to S$4000 and nearly everything is half the price of Malaysia. Eg; clothes, computer parts, electronics etc. But the average Malaysian still earns RM$2000 plus and goods are double the price of Singapore.

This is the same as the UK. If you earn around 2000 pounds, you can liken this to the person earning RM$2000 in Malaysia. I give you some examples below. Maybe you can understand.

1) Good terrace house

It is more or less the same. If you want a house in KL, it would most probably be in Puchong and not Damansara Heights. So your house would be RM$200,000. In UK (London!), you can get a decent new house in Zone 6 (still within the tube) for 200,000 pounds.

If non London, you can get a nice house also for less than 200,000 pounds outside London (Manchester = <100, 000 pounds). The same also applies to buying a house in Seremban, Kajang etc. You can buy a nice house for RM200, 000 below. So buying a house is the same for the local and the Malaysian.

Renting a place is the same too or maybe cheaper than in Malaysia (I am not sure of this). A 2-bedroom flat in London is about 750 pounds (Zone 2). 500 pounds outside Zone 6 but still able to commute to London. A 2-bedroom house in Nottingham is 450 to 500 pounds. A 3-bedroom house in Belfast and Manchester is about 300-350 pounds.

2) A car

A good Wira is RM$55,000. Most Malaysians have to take 7-year loans and be in debt all the time. If you are earning RM$2000 a month, you take nearly 3 years saving the RM$2000 with not eating at all just to buy a Wira.

In UK, the average local earns about 2000 pounds. He saves 3 months, he can buy outright a good Ford Fiesta or a Vauxhall Corsa without being in debt.

If buying a second hand car, even better. A 1990 Mercedes 190E cost 500 pounds. My 1996 Mercedes E220 cost 2000 pounds. My friend just gave me his 1989 Honda Accord (Auto) for free because he said he could only get 30 pounds for it.

I used it for a few months and decided to give it of for free too. That alone speaks for itself.

Even if you are kuli or an office boy, you still can drive a Mercedes or a BM. Yes, kuli's and office boy's get paid quite well.

Average temp/office boy in London can earn about 7 to 10 pounds and hour. Overtime is 1.5 times or double. A brick-layer can earn 20 pounds an hour.

The same Indon who lays bricks in Malaysia earns RM$50 for the whole day.

Before I became a doctor, I used to be an office boy and I earned near 300 pounds a week working about 70 hours a week. My makan was 30 pounds a week. My rent was 70 pounds a week for a room but I still drove a BMW back then. I bought the 10-year old BMW 3 Series car for 200 pounds.

Amazing how an office boy can drive a safe and luxurious car.

3) Petrol

For a UK person earning 2000 pounds, 80 pence (now: 92 pence) a litre/gallon is cheaper than RM$1.52 (now: RM$1.92!) paid in Malaysia. If you don't convert, it is like paying 80 sen a litre in Malaysia

4) Shopping

20 pounds (which is 1% of 2000 pounds) can buy you 1 week's worth of groceries in Tesco. RM$100 (which is 10% of RM$2000) can also buy you 1 week's worth of groceries in Giant or Carrefour.

5) Utility Bills (This is what I pay in UK)

  1. Virtually non-stop heating the whole day only 20 pounds a month (Only 1% of the 2000 pounds earned).
  2. Electricity, I use my electricity maximum only 20 pounds a month.(Only 1% of the 2000 pounds earned)
  3. My water bill also comes to about 20 pounds a month (Only 1% of the 2000 pounds earned)
  4. My internet - I get 2Mbps for about 25 pounds (Bulldog DSL) (Also slightly above 1% of the 2000 pounds earned)
  5. Astro Equivalent (NTL cable or Sky) - 30 pounds per month (Also slightly above 1% of the 2000 pounds earned)

In Malaysia, this is what I used to pay

  1. Tenaga Bill comes to RM$200 to RM300 a month with 3 air-cons. This is more than 10% of the RM$2000 earned)
  2. Water (Puas) comes to RM$40 (This is about 2% of the RM$2000 earned)
  3. Astro RM$100 (if you take Chinese package) (This is about 5% of the RM$2000 you earn)
  4. Internet Streamyx 512K RM 88 per month (This is about 5% of RM2000 you earn)

6) Books

A good book is about 10 to 15 pounds in the UK. This is less than 1% of the 2000 pounds you earn. In Malaysia, you have to spend RM$75 to RM$100 for a decent book in MPH or Kinokuniya in KLCC. This is about 5% of the RM$2000 ringgit you earn.

7) Education

I think it is about RM$20,000 per year to do a degree in Sunway Monash and about RM$12,000 per year to send your kid to UM, UKM, USM etc. I am not sure about this.

But in UK, it is only 3000 pounds a year to send your kid to a great university. That also, the white man still makes a lot of noise because the grants were taken away. Previously, it was virtually free for the English man to send his kid to university but now, since the grant was taken away, he has to spend 3000 pounds per year to send his kid to university and less money to get drunk in the pub.

Well, if you are earning RM$2000 ringgit, sending your kid to UM to study is quite difficult. If you are earning 2000 pounds per month, you can easily send you kid to university in the UK.

Even worse for the poor non bumi's not given a place in local university.

Even if they can afford, they won't get a place because of the quota system. Unfortunately, the Chinaman and the Indian who gets 5A's in STPM have to be sacrificed and not given a place to let the Malay fellow with 2E's and 3 Fail's to enter the Medical Faculty or Law Faculty.

So the non-bumi's have to save RM100,000 per year to send their kid to the UK. In the UK, at least the white man still can go into university based on results and merit and only pay 3000 pounds per year.

8) Luxuries

Panasonic Plasma TV in Malaysia about RM20,000. If you are earning RM$2000 a month, memang mahal! You have to save 2 years your monthly salary to buy it. In UK, the same Panasonic (ironically, Panasonic plasma is made in Japan and Japan is close to Malaysia, so the plasma should be cheaper in Malaysia) is only 200 pounds. And this is only 10% of the 2000pounds earned.

9) Health

NHS is free. Though the service is slow, quality is still there. You still can get a top quality by-pass for free although you may have to wait many months.

In Malaysia, IJN charges RM$30,000. SJMC charges RM$50,000. GH is free but as many people know, GH and UH have clown doctors.

10) Assessments to local councils

I may pay high council tax but at least my council assures my streets are clean and safe, got no holes (pot holes) on my roads, and they jump and attend to me whenever I call them.

When I stayed in Malaysia, I paid my assessment and quite rent but MPSJ I lived in Subang) told me to "podah" whenever I asked them to come and fill up the pot holes, cut the long lalang, put street lighting etc The councils, especially MPPJ and MPSJ, were more interested in eating nasi lemak and going for 10 teh tariks in a day during office hours and hardly did anything for their residents.

11) Income Tax

My national insurance and income tax also is not wasted. When I was unemployed in 1997, the government ia social security paid for my 2-bedroom flat for one whole year and I was given about 100 pounds per week for me and my wife to live on. I am happy to know that one day if I lose my job, I can still claim social security and get my apartment paid and food to eat again for free. It is a good security to know.

The list goes on. Here alone you can see, the sterling you earn goes a long way in the UK. So your quality of life is far better in the UK than a Malaysian in Malaysia. It is just that Malaysians are just too content with what they have. But you compare apple for apple.

The British just love to complain. They have it made but still they love to complain. Nothing is good enough for the British. The government gives the citizens so much but they still seem to want more and more.
